New data from Synergy Research Group shows that 8x8 continued to hold the lead position in the high-growth UCaaS business suite market in Q4 2012, followed by ShoreTel, RingCentral and Vocalocity. The chasing pack all achieved higher sequential and year-on-year revenue growth, but 8x8 maintained a market share lead of five percentage points over its nearest rival. In the two main market segments ShoreTel is leader in private cloud and 8x8 is leader in public cloud deployments. Total 2012 UCaaS business suite revenues came in 29% higher than 2011.
Currently the market is predominantly a North American phenomenon, with the region accounting for well over 80% of worldwide Q4 revenues. EMEA and Asia-Pac regions are seeing more service launches, but they have a long way to go to catch up with North America.
“These are still early days for the UCaaS market but we will see penetration rates pick up steadily as user confidence in cloud-base solutions increase” says Jeremy Duke, Synergy Research Group’s founder and Chief Analyst. “Both UCaaS and hosted business VoIP services are gradually eating into the installed base of corporate users. Much like the transition from TDM to IP, this is a technology migration that will happen over many years.”
