Voice still accounts for 48% of the APAC collaboration equipment market

RENO, NV, December 3, 2012

New data from Synergy Research Group shows that the Q3 Asia-Pac market for enterprise collaboration equipment was valued at US$1.0 billion, giving a rolling annual market value of US$4.1 billion. In the APAC region the collaboration equipment market is still dominated by enterprise voice systems, accounting for 48% of the total, while in North America the respective figure is just 32%, demonstrating the more developed nature of the North American enterprise market. After a growth surge telepresence revenues have leveled off in 2012 and now account for 20% of the total collaboration equipment market. Although they remain small segments, the highest growth is being seen in collaborative workspace software and enterprise social networks.

In Q3 Cisco remained the collaboration market leader in the region with an 18% market share, followed by Microsoft (12%), NEC (11%) and Avaya (10%). Among the leading vendors Microsoft is growing its revenues the most rapidly and is slowing gaining market share.

“When we look at historic market adoption trends for IP telephony, UC and collaboration, the APAC region as a whole has shown some resistance to the more aggressive adoption seen in other regions” says Jeremy Duke, Synergy Research Group’s founder and Chief Analyst. “However, we are now measuring growing momentum for advanced enterprise IP communication in the region. Beyond the voice-oriented segments we will see some exciting growth opportunities in the APAC collaboration market, with new market entrants and some substantial shifts in market share.”
