Cisco Maintains Lead in Four of Five Video Infrastructure Segments

RENO, NV, December 23, 2013

New Q3 data from Synergy Research Group shows that Cisco has maintained is leadership in four of the five main video infrastructure market segments, though in video client hardware & software (which includes set-top boxes, residential gateways and associated software/middleware) it slipped to third ranked position, being overtaken by Pace. In the other major change in the quarter, HP overtook IBM to claim second ranked position in the media data center segment. Arris, boosted by the acquisition of Motorola Home, has a clear lead in the video client segment and is the strongest challenger to Cisco in content management.vi q313

Total video infrastructure revenues for the quarter were $9.4 billion, marginally up on the previous quarter and 3% up on the third quarter of 2012. On a rolling four quarterly basis, annual growth has dropped off a little to 2.5%.

“Growth in some of the more mature segments has been rather sluggish, dragging the overall market growth rate down” said Synergy Research Group’s John Dinsdale. “The segments driving revenue expansion have been media data center and content distribution, and we expect this trend to continue as service providers invest in strategically important advanced IP networks such as IP video infrastructure, in pursuit of higher ARPU and higher revenues.”
