Wireless LAN Centralized Architectures Grow by 20% Worldwide

Sales of Enterprise “Light” Access Points Grow by Nearly 50%,
According to Synergy Research Group

Scottsdale, Arizona – According to Synergy Research Group’s latest report, Q2 2005 Worldwide Wireless LANs (WLAN) Market Shares, the global Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) market grew one percent sequentially and was up nearly 15 percent year-over-year.

According to expert market analysis by Synergy Research Group (SRG),
Consumer WLAN Equipment sales dipped one percent while Enterprise class WLAN equipment sales were up three percent. Further, the report shows that the Consumer WLAN segment represents the bulk of the opportunity worldwide, representing almost 60 percent of the total WLAN market.

“Despite modest increases both Consumer and Enterprise WLAN demand continue to intensify”, said Aaron Vance, Senior Analyst at Synergy Research Group. “Furthermore this demand is being driven by aggressive pricing, a growing number of Consumer multimedia and new MIMO products, and by the Enterprise market’s transition from distributed overlay deployments toward more integrated and centralized architectures.

Notable sequential market share gainers for the quarter included 3Com, Aruba, Belkin, Cisco, Linksys, and Symbol.

Important Note: Synergy’s coverage of the WLAN market now includes Enterprise Wireless Switches/Controllers and “Light” Access Points.
