Ethernet LAN Switch Market Increases 25 Percent

Compared to Last Year

Gigabit and 10Gigabit Ethernet Markets Still Going Strong

Scottsdale, Arizona – The Ethernet LAN Switch Market grew 24.8 percent year-over-year as reported in the recent market share report from Synergy Research Group (SRG).  Overall, the tone was positive, as sales were down only slightly following better than expected growth in the First Quarter of 2004. 

 

“Gigabit continues to be deployed for desktop applications; Fixed Gigabit Layer 3 Sales were up 15 percent and port shipments increased 8 percent compared to Q1,” said Joshua Johnson, Industry Analyst at Synergy Research Group.  “These devices have all the necessary features for network edge upgrades, such as Quality of Service, Power-over-Ethernet, and greater security capabilities.  These features open up the possibilities for Enterprise networks and pave the way for VoIP and WLAN deployments.  What’s more, Gigabit at the edge can create bottlenecks for traffic at the core, prompting greater sales of 10Gigabit switches to pull together all the Gigabit traffic.”
