Enterprise WLAN Switch/Controller Market Doubles Sequentially

Enterprise Market Driven by Strong Quarters from Airespace, Aruba, Cisco, SpectraLink, and Symbol According to Synergy Research Group

Scottsdale, ArizonaIn Q2 2004 the Worldwide Enterprise Wireless LAN (WLAN) Switch/Controller Market grew 105 percent. The top three fastest growers in the quarter in ranked order include Symbol, Airespace, and Hewlett-Packard.

SRG found that Enterprise WLAN equipment sales were up 14 percent, while SOHO/Home WLAN Equipment sales fell 12 percent.  Since the SOHO/Home segment represents more than 53 percent of the total WLAN market, this resulted in an overall flattening of the WLAN market in Q2.

“Q2 was characterized by softness in the SOHO/Home segment, due in large part to seasonality common in the quarter,” said Aaron Vance, Senior Analyst at the Synergy Research Group. “In the Enterprise, WLAN sales are being driven by the growing size of the average Enterprise deployment.  Furthermore, sales of WLAN Switches/Controllers and ‘Light’ APs are also helping to drive growth, and those categories now represent more than 20% of the Enterprise WLAN Infrastructure segment.”
