WLAN Equipment Sales Grow 30% in 2004
Enterprise and SOHO/Home Sub-segments Grow 40% and 23%,
Respectively, According to Synergy Research Group

Scottsdale, Arizona – In Q4 2004 the Worldwide Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) market grew 10 percent sequentially and 30 percent year-over-year.

According to market analysis by Synergy Research Group (SRG), Enterprise WLAN equipment sales were up 40 percent, while SOHO/Home WLAN Equipment sales were up 23 percent. Additionally, the SOHO/Home segment represented more than 57 percent of the total WLAN market.

“2004 was marked by very healthy growth in both the Enterprise and Consumers WLAN segments“, said Aaron Vance, Senior Analyst with Synergy Research Group. “Enterprise sales continue to be driven by the growing size of Enterprise deployments, as well as existing WLAN build-outs. Furthermore, sales of SOHO/Home equipment were equally healthy, especially in the second half of the year, which saw consumer spending driven by the back-to-school and holiday seasons.”

Notable sequential market share gainers for the quarter included 3Com, Airespace, Belkin, Buffalo, and NETGEAR.

Additionally, Synergy’s coverage of the WLAN market now includes Enterprise Wireless Switches/Controllers and “Light” Access Points.
