10Gigabit Ethernet Switch Market Increases 84 Percent

Scottsdale, Arizona – According to Synergy Research Group’s latest report Q3 2004 LAN Switch Worldwide Market Shares the Ethernet LAN Switch Market grew 8% sequentially and 23% year-over-year. The results mark the third consecutive quarter of double-digit growth compared to the same three quarters in 2003, a wave of upgrades has continued since the first quarter.

“Switches installed in the late 1990s are being replaced with versions supporting new capabilities,” said Joshua Johnson, Industry Analyst at Synergy Research Group. “Customers are buying switches that have Quality of Service (QoS) and virus containment abilities. They are frequently deploying end-to-end Gigabit Ethernet links to prepare the network to have bandwidth headroom while carrying voice traffic now and video traffic over time.”

“Even the low-end unmanaged switch market is up 29% in term of sales and 45 % in port shipments compared to the third quarter last year. And the market for 10Gigabit continues to be strong as prices fall to levels that a mainstream customer can afford.”
