Enterprise WLAN Market Driven by Strong Quarters from Airespace, Aruba, and Symbol

Scottsdale, Arizona – Worldwide Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) market returned to form by growing nine percent sequentially in Q3 2004.

According to market analysis by Synergy Research Group (SRG), Enterprise WLAN equipment sales were up five percent, while SOHO/Home WLAN Equipment sales were up 12 percent. Additionally, the SOHO/Home segment represented more than 55 percent of the total WLAN market.

“WLAN equipment sales rebounded from an uncharacteristically down quarter in Q2,” said Aaron Vance, Senior Analyst at the Synergy Research Group. “

Growth in the Enterprise continues to be driven by the growing size of the average Enterprise deployment as well as increased adoption by the ‘carpeted enterprise’, in addition to continued vertical deployment. What’s more, sales of WLAN Switches/Controllers and ‘Light’ APs are increasing and continue to help drive adoption.

Growth in the SOHO/Home segment was driven by aggressive back-to-school and holiday pricing, especially of 802.11b/g and 802.11a/b/g devices, as well as new wireless multimedia devices.”

Notable sequential market share gainers for the quarter included Airespace, Aruba, Belkin, Cisco, D-Link, Linksys, NETGEAR, and Symbol.

Synergy’s coverage of the WLAN market now includes Enterprise Wireless Switches/Controllers and “Light” Access Points.
